While many of us were anxious to leave 2020 behind, I wanted to reflect on some silver linings and positive change driven by the global pandemic.
Telemedicine utilization accelerated at light speed, being adopted by providers and patients alike. We have witnessed science being challenged, and we have watched it prevail. We have seen global collaboration for the development and distribution of vaccines to the world.

The leadership and members of the Society for Pediatric Urgent Care extend a deeply appreciative and enthusiastic thank you to Magna Dias MD who, since 2017, has been our influential and highly effective President of the Board of Directors. Leading with her warm and inclusive personality, she increased membership by 18%.
After many years of leading SPUC’s Communications Committee as Editors of SPUC’s newsletter, Emily Montgomery MD and Jennifer Johnson MD FAAP will refocus their energies in support of the society. This creates a rare opportunity for those in the pediatric urgent care field to lend their expertise and creativity as Editor and/or Co-Editor.
The Mike Moran Scholar Award is presented annually to a pediatric resident or fellow in training in the field of pediatric urgent care (MD/DO, NP, PA), with the goal of enhancing clinical research in pediatric urgent care.
Mike Moran MD was a founding member of Society for Pediatric Urgent Care.
The rapid growth of urgent care and proliferation of pediatric specific urgent care centers over the past several years has created a growing need for providers trained in this developing pediatric specialty.
Academic urgent care fellowships join the growing ranks of one-year fellowship programs. Currently, four pediatric urgent care (PUC) physician fellowships exist at children's hospitals in the US and an additional four are in development.
Thank you to all who tuned in to get a ‘hot off the presses’ look at OUCH 2019 data and early Covid-19 effects on Pediatric Urgent Care. We look forward to publishing an infographic of the 2019 data in early 2021, to be posted on the website for all SPUC members. We are continuing to finalize contracts to get the staffing and salary information.
