It is hard to believe 2020 is fast approaching. It seems like yesterday we were together in Fort Worth. Sincere thanks to everyone who attended, spoke, and planned the annual SPUC 2019 conference in Fort Worth, Texas.
Cook Children’s Medical Center is a beautiful hospital. Dr. Parul Martin and her team members were wonderful hosts. The conference included great talks on innovations in urgent care as well as hands on simulations and workshops. It was also a great opportunity to hear about research that is going on in urgent care with over 18 posters which were presented.
We cannot wait to share results of the SPUC collaborative study on Antimicrobial Stewardship! Results will be presented January 9, 2020.
In addition, get ready for round two of the study! Join us in January for a free webinar to learn more about ways you can improve antibiotic stewardship in pediatric urgent care and earn MOC!
OUCH 2019 - PARTICIPATION REQUESTED!
The OUCH database continues to grow and is the only one of its kind characterizing pediatric urgent care. Please share your group’s data with the current OUCH survey in progress. Contact Amanda Montalbano, MD, MPH at [email protected] for more information so that you can be included!”

The American Academy of Pediatrics welcomed the inaugural meeting of the Provisional Section on Urgent Care Medicine at the 2019 AAP National Convention and Exhibition (AAP NCE) in New Orleans this past October.
The fellowship in pediatric urgent care medicine is a one-year fellowship designed to provide additional clinical, academic, administrative, and teaching experience for a general pediatrician who desires to provide high-quality patient care in the urgent care or emergency department setting.
In addition to the requirements for general pediatrics board certification set forth by the American Board of Pediatrics, fellows will be expected to meet the core competencies of Patient Care, Medical Knowledge, Practice-Based Learning and Improvement, Interpersonal and Communication Skills, Professionalism, and Systems-Based Practice, as related to the field of pediatric urgent care medicine.
The Michael Moran Scholar Award is an annual award given to a pediatric resident or fellow training in the field of pediatric urgent care (MD/DO, NP, PA) with the goal of enhancing clinical research in pediatric urgent care. The scholarship will provide travel expenses and conference fee for the fall SPUC CME conference of the submission year.
