Reflecting and Looking Forward
By Usha Sathian MD FAAP | Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta
With the new year’s arrival, I can’t help but reflect on the past and the future. In urgent cares across the country, we saw a consistent return to seasonality for the infectious diseases that we see in urgent care. RSV wreaked havoc for several months and finally peaked last month in October, and the flu season is now upon us. As you navigate the holiday season and the respiratory illnesses now upon us, I hope that you take time for yourself as well.
I am grateful for the community that we have built together at SPUC. Today, we are 550 members strong and growing. Your Board is committed to moving us forward and will have new members with fresh ideas to make this an organization even more meaningful to you.
As we head into 2025, you can expect:
Five new Board members who will be announced in the near future. I thank all the members who voted, and those who submitted their willingness to serve as leaders in the society. I look forward to working with all of you!
Continued bi-weekly webinars. Hosted by Children’s Wisconsin, these have been a wonderful addition to SPUC’s member benefits. I want to thank Drs. Amy Romashko and Sadia Ansari for this initiative and for leading a team of members who consistently gather new and useful information, demonstrations, and case reports that offer free CME and MOC II for our members.
SPUC will offer its 11th Annual Conference in March at Children’s Mercy Kansas City, MO. The CME committee is working hard to give you a bounty of topics related to your practice of urgent care.
MOC Part 4 Study and the opportunity to participate in a multi-center project. I thank Drs. Ben Klick (CHKD, Virginia), and Rachel Lucas (Children’s Wisconsin) for leading this QI study through SPUC’s QI/Research Committee. Learn more here: https://urgentcarepeds.org/2025-qi-project/
If you are interested in volunteering for any of the committees or simply want to explore opportunities, please contact any of us, we will be happy to talk with you!
I wish you all a healthy, happy new year.
